Staggering growth rates have consistently maintained between 20-30% in the past ten years. Besides, Vietnam is currently one of the biggest fruit exporters in Southeastern Asia.

Opportunities from new markets

The latest statistics show that the total export turnover of Vietnam to the China in the first eight months of 2020 is 27.35 billion USD. The group of fruits has export turnover reached US $ 1.31 billion, down 25.25% over the same period in 2019. The main reason for this is the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic. Additionally, China takes numerous measures to control Vietnam’s exports with stricter requirements on quarantine, traceability, food safety, and hygiene.

However, in return, the total export revenue to other major markets such as ASEAN, the United States, the EU, Korea, and Japan have achieved outstanding growth. The fruit export market structure has positive changes. Because it reduces dependence on the Chinese market and increases exports to these potential markets. It may be a new opportunity for us to diversify and focus on more demanding needs.

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to Asian markets (Japan, South Korea, ASEAN, …) will continue to grow due to market size and considerable consumption, similar consumption habits, and geographical location, convenient for transportation.

At the end of May 2020, fruits exporter in Vietnam successfully exported the first batch of lychee from Hai Duong province to Singapore, the US, and Australia. The area of ​​lychee produced according to GlobalGAP standards of Hai Duong for export is estimated to be about 1,500 tons.

Despite specific achievements, fruits exporter in Vietnam still need more breakthroughs to dominate the world market. • Strengthen supply control and production direction associated with market signals; gradually improve and stabilize the quality of agricultural exports.

• Guiding farmers about the importing country’s standards and suitable production and farming methods to meet those standards.

• Database on food safety measures in significant export markets.
